Ligos and Matrox Partnership Gives Consumers Software Encoding Within the Marvel Product Line

SAN FRANCISCO -- Ligos Technology announced that Matrox has bundled Ligos LSX-MPEG 2 Transcoder software with the Marvel G400-TV, an all-in-one graphics, video capture and video editing card for the PC.

The LSX-MPEG 2 Transcoder is an application for transcoding AVI files into MPEG files. Based on the LSX-MPEG Encoder, the LSX-MPEG 2 Transcoder is a customized "lite" version.

Developed specially for Matrox, the LSX-MPEG 2 Transcoder offers a simple interface that enables MPEG encoding in minutes -- intended for new users. Marvel G400-TV owners also get a $100 price discount if they chose to upgrade to the full version of LSX-MPEG Encoder 3.0.

"By integrating LSX-MPEG 2 in the software bundle, Marvel G400-TV offers consumers professional quality digital video encoding," says Peter Forman, president and chief executive officer of Ligos Technology. "With Ligos and Matrox working together on the Marvel G400-TV, customers now have access to a total transcoding solution."

LSX-MPEG was introduced in August, 1997, and has quickly become the standard in software-only encoders. Rated the top MPEG encoder by industry analysts, LSX-MPEG delivers an all-in-one solution for MPEG-1/MPEG-2 digital transcoding with powerful performance.

"With the LSX-MPEG 2 Transcoder, Marvel G400-TV users can easily and quickly transcode their captured and edited video clips into MPEG-2 format for portability and distribution over the Internet," says Dan Wood, vice president of technical marketing, Matrox Graphics, Inc. "This means that consumers can use the Marvel G400-TV to make Hollywood-style movies on the PC, transcode them into MPEG 2 format and then post the MPEG files to their personal Web sites."

Other features of the LSX-MPEG Transcoder include:

  • Provides pre-defined encoding profiles for a number of applications, from low-bandwidth MPEG-1 for the Internet, up to full-screen MPEG-2, the format used by DVD and Broadcast professionals
  • Capable of transcoding source input format (SIF, 352x240 30fps) video in real-time
  • German, French, Italian and Spanish versions
  • Quick start tutorial for new users

This strategic partnership with Matrox further secures Ligos' position as the dominant player in software-based MPEG-2 technology. In addition to MPEG encoding products, Ligos also offers companies professional-level technology for video compression, digital video recording, editing and playback to the consumer market.

Current leaders in the industry using Ligos MPEG technology include: ATI, Avid, 3DFX, Cinax, Compaq, CSK Research Institute, Dazzle Multimedia, Gateway, Hauppauge, MGI and Ulead.
