Stream Right

There are many editing packages on the market today (like Adobe Premiere 6.0) that allows one to create embedded links in streaming video clips.

Graphics
Graphics are a great element. Just remember that not all graphics will work in a streaming file. Because media can become "chunky" at lower resolutions and streams, once beautiful graphics can lose all their impact and meaning very quickly. This is nothing new to most people.

Editing
There is a wide viariety of editing software available to edit your footage once you bring it back to the studio, so I won't go into any one package here. When you do edit, many of the same ideas that apply to shooting apply to editing, avoid super fast edits, wipes and DVEs don't work as well as you might think, and layers and layers of effects and video can look like layers and layers of dung very quickly.

One thing that you might think about when looking for an editing package is interactivity. Content providers have learned that viewers are not just satisfied with just audio or just video, they want more. Products like Avid ePublisher, Media 100i, Premiere 6, and others allow you to add more interactivity into your streams. These programs can trigger features like .html, .xml, or .smil, pages, as well as provide links to related material. For example, if you are streaming video of a whale expedition, at certain points in the video, the browser window can automatically launch to display additional information (info on the whales the viewer is seeing, other animals, a map of your location, information about the excursion company, etc), links to other websites, and more.

This can be a blessing or a curse depending on how good you are as a producer. Instead of just creating video/audio content, you now have to design all the extras as well.

While this touches on some of the main areas you should be concerned about when acquiring your footage and prepping it for streaming, I've really only scratched the surface. Hopefully these tips will give you something to think about the next time you venture forth to capture and edit footage for your next stream.
